Our Repair First Promise

At Automotive Glass Works, we take pride in our “Repair First” promise. We strive to repair minor cracks in windscreens before considering replacement, saving you time and money while providing maximum convenience. The entire process takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

Why Address Chips and Cracks?

A small chip or crack in your windscreen can quickly escalate into a severe issue, often when you least expect it. These damages are commonly caused by loose stones on the road, whether you’re driving on highways or suburban streets. While it may be tempting to ignore a minor crack, it’s crucial to address these issues as soon as they occur to prevent further damage to your vehicle’s glass.

Windscreen Repair Criteria

0 1

Position of the crack must be situated more than 5cm away from the edge of the windscreen.

02

Size of the crack needs to be no bigger than 21.0mm diameter (20 cent coin).

03

If the crack is near the driver line-of-vision area, the damage must not be more than 15mm across – The driver’s line-of-vision is an area approximately 30cm wide centred on the middle of the steering wheel.

04

If the crack has been exposed to rain or a car wash, moisture can interfere with the adhesion of the resin. Therefore, the area will need to be properly dried before the repair process begins.

Windscreen Repair Procedure

0 1

Surface Cleaning

Our specialist will ensure that the crack is as clean as possible, this will allow the resin to adhere properly to the windscreen during application.

02

Excess Air Removal

A device is placed over the damaged area to create a vacuum. Once all the air has been removed, the crack is filled with resin.

03

Harden The Resin

Depending on the amount of resin used, a special UV light tool or heat is applied to harden the resin. The resin takes approximately 3 minutes to fully harden.

04

Clean & Polish

Once the resin has hardened, we clean the windscreen of any excess material and polish the repair to ensure the surface is completely smooth.
